Curriculum VitaeEducation/Training Hospital Affliation Specialty Board Certification In Practice Since At AWS Since Other For Dr. Yvette Smith, one of the best parts of specializing in women's health is teaching. "I'm an educator at heart," says Dr. Smith. "In Ob/Gyn, so much of what we do is about educating women, and I love that." At AWS, Dr. Smith has the chance to educate women in all stages of life, from the early weeks of pregnancy to entering menopause. She views her relationships with her patients as true partnerships, where her role is to provide information and then help patients make the healthcare choices that are right for them. "Medicine is not a dictatorship," says Dr. Smith. "Not everything is black and white. My patients know that I'm willing to work with them and come up with a plan that will get them where they want to be." Dr. Smith's patients benefit from her openness and willingness to raise issues that may be difficult to discuss. They also benefit from her knowledge, experience and ability to interpret constantly evolving medical and scientific knowledge. Dr. Smith says that at AWS the first priority is to provide excellent care, and secondly to do it in a way that is convenient and accessible. For instance, giving patients 24-hour access to their health records and accepting appointments during lunchtime take into account the busy schedules of working women. "We've all been on the other side," says Dr. Smith. "We don't want to do things that are frustrating to us as patients." Â |
