After four years as a labor and delivery nurse, Melanie Turco returned to school to become a nurse practitioner. She wanted the opportunity to care for women throughout their lives, building personal relationships with her patients and seeing positive outcomes to health problems that she helped to solve.

Melanie takes a holistic approach to healthcare, focusing on getting to know her patients, who range in age from teens to women in menopause. She believes that in order to educate her patients, it is necessary to first establish a bond of trust and caring.

"Patient education is probably one of the most important things we do for wellness," says Melanie. "We are able to provide information to help prevent problems before they happen."

Melanie is most proud of the relationships she's been able to build throughout her career. She believes she is known to her patients as a dedicated professional who cares about their health.

Being at AWS makes that even easier, she says, since AWS provides easy access to healthcare by being accommodating and convenient for patients.

She enjoys working at AWS because of the variety of practitioners who relate well to patients and the warm, accepting environment. As a result, she says patients have confidence that they are receiving good care from the long established practice.
